Factors Leading to Driving Accidents in Sydney

Sydney is a highly populated city and there has been a massive increase in traffic. Due to the massive load of traffic, car accidents are common in Sydney. Driving accidents are very costly in terms of damage to vehicles, injuries, and deaths. Car accidents are one of the major social issues both in terms of the cost to the society and in terms of years of potential life lost. Accidents do not happen out of the blue. They are always the result of cause and effect. Some of the most common causes of accidents are discussed below.

Drunk driving
One of the most common reasons of accidents is unfortunately drunk driving. Driving while being under the influence of alcohol puts the driver and everybody around at the risk of accident. Alcohol reduces the speed of reflexes. The brain takes more than twice the amount of time to send the messages to the arms and legs. Therefore even simple tasks such as turning corners can become problematic. It also impairs judgment and therefore a person is more likely to become aggressive towards other motorists and to take more risks. Alcohol also impairs vision which can result in failure to see safety instructions such as speed limits.

Speeding
Speeding is also one of the common reasons of accidents in Sydney. Despite the laws and increased awareness, it still remains a problem. Many accidents occur because drivers fail to comply with the speed limits. In their haste to get to places fast, the drivers ignore speed limits. The faster a car is, the more time it will take to stop it, and the more deadly the impact will be.

Sleepiness
Driving while feeling sleepy is highly risky. The number of accidents caused by drivers falling asleep is surprisingly very high. People who are tired and have not had sufficient sleep can fall asleep while being at the wheel and crash their vehicle.

Lack of attention
Driving needs your full attention. If you are not paying attention while driving or you are distracted, you are risking an accident. Even a split second’s distraction can cause an accident. Common distractions include using a mobile phone, changing the stereo, interacting with fellow passengers and many more.

Depression
Depression is also common reason of vehicle accidents in Sydney. Drivers who are depressed can easily get frustrated which can lead to rash and risky driving. You should avoid the wheel if you are suffering from depression.

Weather
Weather can also become a cause of car accidents. We have little control over weather but we can avoid accidents by being more careful and alert while driving in inappropriate weather. Weather conditions such as rain can obscure the drivers’ vision and make it harder to stop in time. If there is the need to drive in a bad weather, ensure you take all the recommended precautionary measures for your own and the other commuters’ safety.

Most of accidents can be avoided by abiding by the traffic laws, using common sense, and being careful and alert.
